Eclipse + Google SOC

I want to commend the Eclipse community for getting involved with Google’s Summer of Code. There are a couple of interesting projects listed:
* Cross platform Eclipse SWT embedded Firefox browser widget
* Mylar and ECF integration, enabling task contexts to be shared synchronously between developers

Now that I’m a student, maybe I can swing towards one of these projects ;p

On a side note, I was reading an interesting tutorial regarding creating games in Eclipse. I believe Doug Schaefer mentioned the notion of Eclipse + Gaming before. I believe there’s a lot of unexplored territory in this field and I’d be curious to hear what people think about it (personally, I just want to have an Eclipse keybinding that brings up invaders or that crazy BASIC game with the gorillas)

I think Doug talked about game developement, not playing games? I could be wrong though. But personally, I think UnrealScript/Unreal engine tools a’la WOTGreal would be a good start for Eclipse to get involved in Game Developement. UnrealScript is quite similar to Java, but as I’ve heard, it’s not that easy to create a parser for it.
Also, I think interactive fiction, graphical adventure game or RPG tools would be another good way to start, seeing that there are already many such free tools created by hobbyists, but they are mostly proprietary (as far as I know).

we are trying to achive a game editor, its not easy but we have succeded so far of what we want. MonkeyWorld3D, uses pure SWT + JFaces, but their is nothing to prevent us from doing it as an RCP application when we have that chance.

Imagine that you can interacte with your 3d world, drag and drop geometry ( Currently done with MW3D ), change to scripting and library perspectives, test your game on the fly, then it would be freakingly cool stuff.
