EMF on Devices

I would just like to point people to a bug that I thought was really cool, a Peter Nehrer has prototyped EMF working on a much lower execution environment (meaning, EMF has the possibility to run on devices).

Hopefully the EMF team investigates this possibility after the Europa release, it’ll be a cool thing to watch.

As far as I know, there is no Profile 1.1 support for Java 5.0, so we can only do this for EMF 2.2.x not the new 2.3.0 stream. I’d like to make it happen for EMF 2.2.3, which will GA soon, so the pressure is on…

Ed, that’s really great! As far as I’m concerned, 2.2 is a great release even though it lacks support for the latest and greatest Java 5 features.

One area that will need to be pretty much ported over to eRCP is the UI layer. Having a full vertical EMF “stack” (from model to UI) would really bring the power of model-driven architecture to eRCP, with quite a small resource footprint at that. But that’s probably more suited for a separate sub-project (emf4me? :-)) rather than being part of EMF proper.
