PDE Brings Christmas Early

In the spirit of making it a plug-in developers’ Christmas, the PDE team is bringing you some new functionality. There’s one thing I’ve always loved about Eclipse, and that is the Open Type dialog (Ctrl+Shift+T). I’ve always wanted to have something similar in PDE and the good news is now we will. I spent the last few days in the PDE Workshop and this is what I came up with:

Look for it in Eclipse 3.4M4 once I can come up with a good keybinding πŸ™‚

That is awesome! I hope you do keep the history like Open Type dialog does? πŸ˜‰

It also would be handy very to be able to filter that list by the artifact type, i.e. show only extension points, only extensions, etc. The filter can simply look as bunch of check actions in that dialog drop down menu where Open Type dialog have working set selection and type filter in that menu (little triangle on the right of the label).

Another improvement could be to allow to chose that to do upon selection, i.e. show extensipn point documentation/help, or its declaration in plugin.xml

Wait a minute. Did PDE finally add a feature that made Eugene happy? πŸ™‚

What about shortcut Ctrl+Shift+P? It reminds one of PDE, plugins, and (extension) points and is thus easy to remember.

Eugene, you’re very high maintenance πŸ˜‰

I already implemented the filters. I’m still working on the history, should be ready for 3.4M4.

You can file an enhancement request to show extension point help on selection.

Here’s the bug if people want to remain in the loop.

I originally wanted Ctrl+Shift+P but it is currently taken by Text. I will have to barter with them πŸ™‚
