Fly the Good Times

I finally made it back from Eclipse Forum India. I think I have had enough Kingfisher beer to last another year and I also found my new favorite Indian-based airline, Kingfisher airlines. The airline has the awesome motto of “fly the good times” πŸ™‚

On a serious note, I’m pleased to report that the conference was very enjoyable with enthusiastic attendees curious about Eclipse technology. If I were to change one thing, I would love to see an Eclipse-specific conference in India by 2010. What I mean by that is we currently have the well-organized EclipseCon 2008 and Eclipse Summit Europe conferences… why not expand into Asia a bit with an Eclipse Summit India :)?

Oh, if anyone has recommendations for in-ear headphones… let me know… I’m currently looking at the Shure E3c and Etymotic ER6i. My old pair of headphones has finally bit the dust and I’m looking for an upgrade πŸ™‚

You should consider Ultimate Ears – not any particular model number as I have a version that came out before the current line-up. Mine came with a bag-full of different sized attachments, sure to fit any ear; also, the sound quality is pretty damn awesome πŸ™‚

I really enjoy my Bang and Olufsen “A8″s. They’re very comfortable and incredibly durable. I treat mine VERY badly and I managed to get over two years out of my last pair. When they DO kick the bucket they’ll even exchange them for you. Very good stuff.

hey chris, we met very briefly in the toilet at bangalore…Yeah the conference was good. Loved your sessions…was a real pleasure listening to you. Glad to know you’ve picked up some good habits while u were here in bangalore!
I suggest you give up the earphones and listen to some loud music and disturb your neighbours.

Looking forward to meeting you next year at the conferencs.
    Jah Bless.

I have the Shure E3c. They rock! The only issue I have with them, which will be true of all in-ear style earphones, is the chewing action slowly dislodges the earpieces. So while you are dining at 35,000 ft, your chewing will cause the earpieces to “break the seal” and let in the cabin noise. So you are constantly readjusting them while eating.

I’m (ab)using creative EP 630 for over 2 years now.

    pro:
    – cheap compared to the others mentioned
    – excellent outside-noise canceling when music is on
    – survived washing machine πŸ˜‰
    con:
    – sometimes you hear movement noises (clothes vs cable)
    – bass slightly more powerful than tremble

see you next week on eclipse forum europe.

I’ve had issues with etymotic in the past. I tried to order a set of high-fidelity earplugs from them in the past, and it took over six months to get them. I’m not going to order etymotic again (though the earplugs are pretty good).
