I really like Chris' idea,and think that something like this does have a place in the UI, but we are extremely sensitive to use and abuse of screen estate. It's not clear yet if it will make the final cut for Mylyn 3.2, and I'm going to reopen the bug to discuss. If it doesn't make the final UI we'll make it easy to get it as an add-on.
